The NSPCC has held a formal event in recognition of SPAR UK’s phenomenal £2million fundraising achievement for the children’s charity during the four years since the partnership’s launch.

The celebration was held on Friday 20 August at the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Trust at the Old County Hall building in Waterloo, with representatives from the NSPCC, SPAR UK central office, RDCs, SPAR retailers including store managers, all in attendance.

Plaques were presented to each RDC and a DVD was shown highlighting SPAR’s fantastic fundraising work over the past four years.

The event was to mark SPAR UK’s achievement of beating its ambitious £2 million fundraising target for the children’s charity NSPCC and CHILDREN 1ST, as announced in July.

Despite the economic uncertainty of the last few years, SPAR convenience stores, retailers, wholesalers and their 50,000 employees have work tirelessly by expanding their fundraising and cause-related marketing activities in order to raise over £2 million for the NSPCC

Managing director of SPAR UK Ltd, Jerry Marwood said: “As a business we have been passionate about supporting the NSPCC and Children 1st. Awareness of our fundraising activities in SPAR stores around the country has exceeded our expectations. Now more than ever, we are grateful to our customers who have given generously to the NSPCC and CHILDREN 1ST.

“We are passionate about what we provide and aim to offer our customers better stores, better products and the services they want – locally. To this end, we are delighted that our stores have raised over £2 million to help protect children at immediate risk.”

Since the partnership’s launch in 2006, its fundraising activities have included Easter, Halloween and Christmas parties. The successful Stop 4 Tea campaign, which ran in May across selected stores, helped the partnership pass the £2 million target.

SPAR stores have also run special promotions on selected sandwiches and confectionary, amongst many other activities.
