The manager of a SPAR store in New Chapel Street, Mill Hill, Blackburn, has been recognised by her community for her contribution to safety in the local area.
Theresa Southworth, who has managed the SPAR store for 16 years, successfully worked alongside local police to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve life for residents in the Mill Hill area of Blackburn and Darwen.
Earlier this year, Theresa provided evidence to successfully secure three anti-social behaviour orders on the worst youth offenders in the area, despite suffering verbal abuse.
By offering this help to police, Theresa helped improve safety and security not only in the Mill Hill SPAR store, but across the local community.
To recognise the importance of this outstanding contribution, Theresa was nominated for a police Pat on the Back Award in the East Lancashire region, under the Community Safety category – and in June, it was revealed that she had won.
Theresa received not only a trophy, but also £700 to spend on further improving the service the store provides.
“Crime can be a problem in our store, just as it is in stores across the country, and it’s important that someone in the local community stands up to it,” said Theresa Southworth.
“The Blackburn and Darwen Pat on the Back Awards recognise and value all the hard work, commitment and achievements of staff across the local community, and it is a privilege to be celebrated for lending a hand.”
“I am planning on spending the £700 award money on further improving the safety and security of our store,” she concluded. “This achievement goes to show that it pays to get involved in local issues.”
