Affogate al Caffe
3
If you’re short on time and looking for an easy dessert recipe, they don’t come much simpler than Affogate al Caffe. An Italian dessert, this coffee and ice cream combination takes just minutes to make, and yet it’s sophisticated too.
Coffee has been a popular drink in the UK since the 17th century when the very first coffee house opened in Oxford in 1651. It’s equally well loved in Italy, where the day can’t begin without a strong espresso at a local cafe. Although coffee is most commonly consumed as a drink at the end of a meal or as a daily pick-me-up, it makes a fantastic cooking ingredient – as demonstrated by the Italian dessert classic Tiramisu (meaning ‘pick me up’). In the UK favourite recipes using coffee include coffee cake and coffee ice cream, and we also love it with chocolate.
The beauty of this recipe is that you only need three ingredients: coffee, water and vanilla ice cream, and there you have it, the ultimate in easy dessert recipes!
