A delicious way to get your vitamins

It can be tricky trying to get your five-a-day but downing a smoothie made from fruit and veg can get you off to a fantastic start in the mornings, plus they’re perfect if you can’t face a big breakfast.
Use any fruits you have and blend with yoghurt. For anyone with a sweeter tooth, try adding half a teaspoon of honey before blending. You can also use frozen fruits – adding a handful of frozen mixed berries – strawberries, blueberries, redcurrants or raspberries – will up the nutrition content no end. For extra nutrition, you can add a sprinkling of seeds such as flax, sunflower or pumpkin for omega oils. Chop up a few nuts and sprinkle over the top of your smoothie. Try adding some vegetables, too – fresh spinach or carrots work well and will give you an extra vitamin boost.

Banana Smoothie
Serves 1
1 banana
150g natural yogurt
Ice cubes – optional
Peel the banana and roughly chop into a blender, add the yogurt and blend for a minute if you like fruit chunks, or longer if you want it smooth. Pour into a glass, add the ice if desired.
