White, rose and sparkling wine codes
Our white, rosé and sparkling wines each have a code between 1 – 9 depending on their sweetness.
1-2 Dry white wines including Sancerre and Muscadet, and most Sauvignon Blancs.
3-6 Classic medium wines ranging from fruity Chardonnays through to Californian rosés.
7-9 Indicates the sweetest, most luscious wines like Moscatel de Valencia or Asti Spumante.
Red wine codes
Our red wines are coded from A – E depending on the strength of flavour.
A The lightest reds include Beaujolais and Bardolino from Northern Italy.
B-D Most red wines, including Cabernet Sauvignons. Merlots and Pinot Noirs are somewhere in the middle. The complexity, alcohol and tannin content will increase as you go up the scale.
E The fullest-bodied red wines include Australian Shiraz and Californian Zinfandels.
