As Britain's most successful all-round swimmer, we guess it's no surprise that one of Sharron Davies' favourite recipes is Fish Pie!

In the swim of it

Sharron Davies

At 13, Sharron was the youngest member of the 1976 Olympic team in Montreal, and in 1992 the oldest member of the squad at the Barcelona Games. Her swimming career spanned three decades, and included numerous major titles and medals, and 200 British records, some of which still stand.

Simon had a theory that men make better swimmers than women because men have longer arms and stronger chests, but Sharron soon put him right. Not only are her arms longer than his, but she assured him that good swimming is all in the leg work!

Sharron is a bit of a foodie – she grows her own vegetables and loves to cook. She puts her passion for fish down to her roots: "I was brought up in the West Country and so I love fish. I’m a supper person and like to make dinner for the 5000." Sharron’s hearty Fish Pie is adaptable to whatever fish or veg you might have at home. You can also make it in advance and freeze it. She says it's a good way to get your kids to eat vegetables and her three love it. "There are never any leftovers, so I must be doing something right."
