SPAR have stores within barracks across the country, providing servicemen with groceries, and so with our sponsorship of UK Athletics want to support the RAF’s performances on the track.

Jenny and her husband and coach Trevor Painter were on hand at RAF Cosford to announce SPAR’s support and to put the servicemen through their paces on the track.

Jenny commented, “Our servicemen do an incredible job under intense pressure. Standing on the starting line of the Olympic 800m final is nothing compared to what they go through so I’m really happy to be able to do my bit and help them with their athletic performance.”

Rebecca Whitmore, Marketing Manager for SPAR, added, “We’ve had a trade relationship with the armed forces for many years with stores on site at barracks and given our European and UK Athletics sponsorships it made sense for us to extend our support to the RAF Athletics Association. We are proud to support the RAF athletics association, using our existing sponsorship platform to help them on track.”

The RAF Athletics Association is made up of full time members of the Royal Air Force and covers disciplines ranging from Track and Field to Cross Country and Tug of War. The RAF coaching weekend Jenny attended is part of a series of such weekends throughout the winter months that aims to develop up and coming athletes and prepare the team for the Inter Service Championships where we take on the British Army and Royal Navy. The RAF team are delighted to be the current holders of the Inter Service title.
Sqn Ldr Ben Trapnell said "It’s fantastic to see Jenny heare today and she has given everyone an insight into the dedication and commitment it takes to compete at an Olympic level. this will inspire many to redouble their efforts preparing for next year’s Inter Services either in the UK or whilst on Operations overseas."
