Attract admiring glances on the beach this summer

When it comes to looking good on the beach this summer, common problem areas include arms, hips, bum, stomach and thighs. Here, LA Fitness’ National Fitness Director, Mark Talley tells you how to get yourself in shape for your holiday.
Mark says: “Whilst it’s well known that exercises such as lifting weights and floor work can help to tone the body, if you want to lose weight and maintain a slim bikini figure for more than just the summer, it’s essential to start a cardio work-out, which not only improves the body’s shape but also improves levels of physical fitness. Cardio is also a great way to stay motivated and keep yourself going and will help you see results quickly. Here are my top cardio suggestions for targeting problem bikini areas:"
Taut abdominal muscles
"You can flatten and sculpt the abdominal muscles with aerobic dance exercises that include bending and twisting. Dance classes such as La Fitness’ salsa aerobics includes lots of moves for toning the core abdominal muscles, and are also a great, fun way to keep fit."
Defined arms and shoulders
"Aerobics classes are a great way to improve your cardio fitness, and include a lot of exercises to strengthen and tone arms."
Slim hips and legs
"When it comes to getting perfect pins, why not try a spin class. If you are a beginner take a quick half-hour class to jumpstart your new fitness routine. One spin class a week is a great way to lose weight from all over the body, especially the hips and thighs."
Pert bum
"To sculpt a sagging behind, choose cardio exercises such as running or walking on a treadmill or a stair-climbing machine. By setting the treadmill at an incline you will also make your muscles work harder, therefore increasing the effectiveness of your work-out and toning muscles up faster."
Toned from top to toe
For an all-over bikini body workout, Mark says: “My number one choice for getting bikini-ready would be to mix in swimming – 15 lengths or so – and potentially an aqua aerobics class with a Pilates class. Although many people might see these as easy options, Pilates is actually great for an all-over bikini body work-out as it strengthens and lengthens the entire body, with a focus on abdominal strength. Swimming should get you geared up for the holidays anyway – but it also works all your muscles.”
