Make exercise a family affair

family fitness

Let's face it, once you have children it can be hard making time for a fitness regime. But if you choose activities all the family can get involved in your kids are sure to pick up the fitness bug and you'll lose pounds too! The secret is making it fun. Here are some ideas.

  • Cycling – go for a ride on a country cycle path so you can avoid traffic and the potential hazards that brings. Plus the uneven ground will give your legs more of a workout! Search for suitable places near you at www.ruralways.org.uk.

  • Take a football and have a kickabout in your local park, or take a bat and some balls and have a game of rounders.

  • Get dancing – line dancing or country dancing both involve dancing with lots of other people. Check out your local recreation centre for classes.

  • Tennis – both traditional tennis and table tennis are excellent for families as you can play in teams and arrange mini tournaments.

  • Skipping is incredibly good for you and if you have a large rope plenty of people can skip at the same time. Remember the skipping games you used to play as a child and introduce them to your children.

  • Walking is something you can all do together. Why not go geocaching, where you hunt for some ‘treasure’ buried by a geocacher – kids will love it! Find out more from the Geocaching Association of Great Britain. You could also try orienteering.
