An international athlete spends days, weeks and months of every year travelling, waiting around airports, in hotels and spending hours in the air. How does Jenny deal with life on the road?

“I’m very good at entertaining myself,” says Jenny. “I don’t need lots of gadgets, so if I’m flying I might pick up a magazine or a bestseller at the airport and take my iPod but often on the plane I won’t need them. I am good at sleeping anywhere, and of course legroom is never a problem.” (She is five foot one!)

On Jenny’s iPod you are likely to find anything from Alicia Keys to JLS, anything that is current, as well as “oldies” including Beatles tracks.

Jenny says: “Major competitions come around very quickly – indoor World Championships, outdoor World Championships, Europeans, Olympics, they come round very quickly so I do travel quite a lot, and often am away for warm-weather training. For instance, before the Barcelona European Championships I went off to Portugal for some hot-weather training.”
