This week we’re celebrating beer in all its glory. We’ve teamed up with our friends at There’s a beer for that to match our Easy Meals with their perfect beer type! There’s never been a better time to enjoy beer. In Britain alone there are 17,000 breweries producing 12,300 beers across 140 different styles (Find your nearest SPAR off-licence here!).
From bitters to blondes there's a beer for almost every occasion and every palate. Styles like pale ale (first brewed in the UK at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries) have enjoyed a revival on the back of bold, tropical-fruit-flavoured hops from the United States and Australasia. Dark beers like stout and porter, whose roots lie in 18th century London, are popular again as drinkers seek out more interesting flavours. Wheat beers are becoming more and more popular and brewers are also keen to demonstrate there’s more to lager than people might think, with an array of colours and flavours that offer more than most drinkers appreciate.
