Christmas has arrived early for SPAR customers in Wigan with the relaunch of a community store in Kitt Green.
Following a 10-day closure, SPAR Kitt Green has benefited from a complete refurbishment, and the store team who have over 100 years of collective experience working together welcomed back customers into their totally transformed SPAR store.
Changes include a brand-new Clayton Park Bakery counter offering hot and cold fresh Food To Go which has been installed adjacent to the till area.
At the counter, customers can take advantage of a range of savoury and sweet products individually or as part of the £3.95 Breakfast Meal Deal or the £5.50 lunchtime Premium Meal Deal.
A new Cheeky Coffee machine has been added to the store too, further enhancing the ‘on the go’ food offer, and another highlight development is an Iceland frozen foods section at the back of the store.
Other improvements to SPAR Kitt Green include an extended chilled beers and wines area and a greater range of fresh foods and grocery produce in modern refrigeration.
Freshly baked bread can also be purchased by customers, including Clayton Park Bakery’s recently launched sourdough products, and there is a comprehensive range of big brand products at value prices.
Snazzy electronic shelf edge labels displaying prices clearly, new flooring, and brighter energy efficient LED lighting further add to the store’s modern feel.
Ahead of the launch, SPAR Kitt Green has partnered with One Vision Studios, a charity that works to advance the education of people with disabilities and promote social inclusion by preventing people with disabilities from becoming socially excluded.
The charity supports 80 people in the Wigan area and SPAR Kitt Green’s donation to the charity will be put towards an all-inclusive, fully accessible Sensory Garden planned for 2026. One Vision Studios staff and members were invited down to cut the ribbon to reopen the store.
Fiona Drummond, Company Stores Director at James Hall & Co. Ltd, owner of SPAR Kitt Green, said: “We are very excited to reopen SPAR Kitt Green to the community. We have invested significant money into its revamp, and I am delighted with how the store looks and feels.
“During a rapid makeover, we have made major changes to the store’s layout, and we have packed a lot of new additions into SPAR Kitt Green to improve the customer shopping experience. We believe our customers will love what they see when they return to shop with us now we are reopen.”
John Hare was one of the first customers through the door after SPAR Kitt Green reopened. He said: “I come in every day for a paper, and a few other bits like bread and milk. I love shopping here as I can always get what I need and the store team are fantastic.
Angela Hendry, from One Vision Studios, said: “We already had a personal connection to the store as a daughter of one of the staff is a member of our group, so we are very grateful to SPAR Kitt Green for choosing to support our charity officially at its relaunch.
“The store looks brilliant, and I am very impressed with the changes that have been made. It was a pleasure to be asked to come with a couple of our members to cut the ribbon to declare it reopen to the community.”
