Time for a SPARBBQ
Don’t let the unpredictable British weather stop you from firing up the barbecue this summer.
This summer your local SPAR has got you covered, with a wide selection of own-label summer meats, your favourite accompaniments and refreshing drinks. SPAR is there for you this summer, no need to plan a big shop, just pop in and out and grab those BBQ essentials, from sausages to burgers, to ketchup and salad.

Top BBQ picks
When it comes to BBQs, we Brits have some clear favourites. According to a poll from YouGov last summer (August 2024), there are seven items that every BBQ must have to keep guests happy.
- Chicken skewers
- Bread rolls
- Chicken breast
- Pork sausages
- Beef burgers
- Garlic bread
- Baked potatoes

The Taste of Summer
The first signs of summer have always been the signal for BBQ-loving Brits to fire up the grill and get ready for some al-fresco cuisine with their nearest and dearest.
When it comes to the most loved part of a BBQ, it is pork sausages that more Brits (58%) say they ‘like a lot’ than any other item, although beef burgers (57%) and chicken breast (56%) come in a very close second and third. Mix and match on sausages at SPAR, with the classic Cumberland and Lincolnshire and delicious Caramelised onion and Pork and Apple. Or impress your family and friends with ready-to-grill meats, including salt and chill pork belly and chicken and chorizo skewers. There's so much choice at your local SPAR.

BBQ Tips for a Perfect Grill
- Preheat the Grill: Always preheat your grill for at least 15 minutes before cooking. This ensures even cooking and helps prevent food from sticking.
- Oil the Grates: Use a high smoke point oil like canola or vegetable oil to lightly coat the grill grates. This helps create a non-stick surface.
- Marinate for Flavour: Marinate meats and veggies for at least 30 minutes before grilling to enhance flavour and tenderness. Or save yourself some time and pick up SPAR’s pre-marinated summer meats.
- Use a Meat Thermometer: Ensure your meats are cooked to the right temperature for safety and optimal taste. Chicken should reach 165°F, while beef can vary depending on preference.
- Rest the Meat: Let grilled meats rest for a few minutes before serving. This allows juices to redistribute, making the meat more tender and flavourful.
- Keep it Clean: Clean your grill grates after each use to prevent buildup and ensure better tasting food.
