Warm, fragrant, and irresistibly cozy, this mulled cider recipe uses a few simple ingredients that’s perfect to keep you warm and get you in the festive mood.

With SPAR apple cider gently simmered with cinnamon sticks, star anise, and a touch of whole cloves for deep, comforting spice. Bright orange slices add a citrus lift, while apple slices finish it off with rustic charm. A timeless drink to warm your hands and heart.

For a twist on the classic recipe switch out apple cider for pear cider, still cosy but with a touch of added sweetness. This small‑batch recipe is perfect for a few servings or scale it up for larger gatherings.

What you'll need:

  • 1 litre SPAR original apple cider
  • 2 - 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 - 7 whole cloves
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • For those with a sweet tooth add 1-2 tablespoons of brown sugar, maple syrup, or honey
  • Garnish with apple or orange slices and some orange peel for extra style points
  • Top tip: For a non-alcoholic version switch to apple juice.

Method:

  1. Pour the SPAR cider into a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the cinnamon, cloves, and orange (if using)
  3. Warm over a medium heat until it reaches a low simmer, avoid boiling.
  4. Reduce to a low heat and cover for 20–30 minutes so the flavours infuse.
  5. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the spices.
  6. Ladle the hot mulled cider into mugs or heatproof glasses.
  7. Add your choice of garnish
