SPAR Rewards – Membership Terms and Conditions
Who we are and what these Terms cover
These terms and conditions (Terms) govern your membership of and use of the SPAR Rewards service (Service), both using the SPAR Rewards mobile application (App) and your physical SPAR Rewards card.
We, SPAR (UK) Limited of Mezzanine Floor Hygeia Building, 66-68 College Road, Harrow, Middlesex, HA1 1BE (“Spar”, “we”, “us”) are a retailer who operate and provide the Service to our customers.
SPAR Rewards is aimed at consumers who wish to setup an SPAR Rewards account and/or have a SPAR Rewards card in order to receive personal information, offers and rewards from Spar and our specially selected business partners.
These terms, in conjunction with the SPAR Rewards App Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, apply to the use of the Service in the United Kingdom, both using the App and in participating SPAR stores.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to use the Service you must:
- Be 18 years or older;
- Be resident within United Kingdom;
- Agree to comply with these Terms together with the App Terms of Use and Privacy Policy;
- Use the Service for your own personal use and not for any commercial activities; and
- Have a live and active SPAR Rewards Account on the App.
Each person is only entitled to one SPAR Rewards account and you are not entitled to setup multiple accounts or accounts using another person’s details. We reserve the right to remove or cancel any SPAR Rewards accounts we believe to breach this restriction. Your SPAR Rewards account is also personal to you and cannot be transferred.
How to Register
You can register to use the Service and participate in our SPAR Rewards membership scheme using the App.
You may apply to register to use the Service by entering all of the required information including providing your SPAR Rewards Account username and password ("Login Data").
Once we have received your application to register, we will send you a confirmation e-mail to the e- mail address you provided during registration which will confirm that we have received your application and that you have been registered to use the Service.
You may use the App as soon as you have received this confirmation e-mail. This e-mail will also contain a verification link which you must click in order to verify your e-mail address and link this to your SPAR Rewards account.
Your Information
You are solely responsible for ensuring you provide accurate and complete information when registering for a SPAR Rewards account and for updating this information should any of your details change. We accept no responsibility for anything caused by you providing us with incorrect information or not keeping your account details up to date.
Any information you provide to us for your SPAR Rewards account will be managed by us in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
What does SPAR Rewards Involve
By signing up for SPAR Rewards, you will be entitled to receive access to special offers, discounts and promotions, both via the App and in participating SPAR stores. SPAR Rewards is only available in selected stores. Rewards are store specific. Therefore, you may not be able to participate and redeem your vouchers in all stores. It is your responsibility to check whether the reward you want to use is available in your selected store using the in-app store selector.
These may include:
- Member pricing
- Vouchers
- Stamp cards
- In-app competitions
Where we offer certain promotions, discounts or offers to SPAR Rewards customers, these may be subject to additional terms and conditions which you’ll need to agree to at the time to receive these benefits.
How to use SPAR Rewards in store
By signing up for SPAR Rewards you will be able to use your virtual Rewards Card on the App in participating SPAR stores or, if you’d prefer, pick up a physical SPAR Rewards Card in store subject to availability.
To use your SPAR Rewards Card in store, you will just need to scan it at the cash register or self-checkout to record your transaction and receive the benefit of any in-store discounts or offers available to you at that time as a SPAR Rewards customer.
Please note that SPAR Rewards is a new service and as such is only available to use in SPAR stores who are currently participating in the Service. If you are unsure whether your local store is accepting SPAR Rewards, please Contact Us.
If you Change your Mind
You are free to cancel your registration for SPAR Rewards at any time using the App or by Contacting Us to say you want to cancel, but once you have cancelled you will no longer be entitled to use the Service or receive any benefits from the SPAR Rewards scheme.
Our Rights to Cancel your Membership
We reserve the right to cancel or suspend your access to SPAR Rewards and/or the App at any time if you fail to comply with these Terms or any other applicable terms and conditions we have advised you of.
If your SPAR Rewards account is cancelled, whether by you or us, you will no longer be entitled to use the Service, receive any benefits from SPAR Rewards and will lose any benefits you have accrued up to when you cancelled.
We also reserve the right to terminate the SPAR Rewards scheme, special offers, discounts and promotions or alter the terms of operation of the Service at any time and we will make reasonable endeavours to notify participants of any changes or terminations via the app, in-store communications or our website. Our promotions adhere to the CAP code on Promotional Marketing and all other relevant ASA guidelines.
Our Liability to You
We do not accept any responsibility to you:
- if you are unable to access the App due to there being no or limited WLAN connection or internet connectivity being available through your mobile device; or
- if the scanning device at the checkout does not function correctly and you are unable to identify yourself to link your purchase to the App.
Any offers that are made available to you via the App are subject to availability and participation by individual SPAR stores.
We do not exclude or limit in any way liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
We are not responsible for events outside our control. If there is any interruption to the operation or availability of the App or the Service due to an event outside our control, we will make reasonable endeavours to make customers aware.
Provided we do this we will not be responsible for any loss which may be incurred by you as a result of any suspension or, interruption to the availability of the App. Access to the App may need to be suspended temporarily from time to time in the case of system failure, maintenance or repair required for these purposes.
Changes to these Terms
We may make changes to these Terms for one or more of the following reasons:
- to reflect changes in law or regulations or meet any relevant regulatory requirements;
- to reflect changes in any consumer protection codes of conduct or best practice which we have agreed to comply with;
- to reflect changes in technology and any changes to the functionality of the App;
- to change these Terms to make them clearer for you; and
- to update these Terms to reflect changes in the SPAR Rewards Service and the offers, discounts and other benefits provided to members.
If we change these Terms, we will inform you via the App as soon as we can. Continued use of the service implies your acceptance of the updated Terms.'
SPAR Rewards Partners
From time to time, we may promote offers from SPAR Rewards Partners to you as a SPAR Rewards member.
Where we contact you about offers or promotions from SPAR Rewards Partners, you will also need to comply with any terms and conditions for accessing those offers from our Partners.
We may also include links to websites operated by SPAR Rewards Partners in such offers, which are not operated by us. These sites are not under our control and, as such, we cannot accept any responsibility for any content contained on those sites, the security of those sites or any statements made on them by third parties.
Other Important Terms
If you have any problems using the App or accessing the SPAR Rewards Service or benefits, please do Contact Us using the details available on the App or our Website and make reasonable endeavours to resolve the issue for you.
We may transfer all or some of our rights under these Terms to another party at any time, however such transfer will not affect your rights. You can cancel your membership and account at any time, by following the process set out within 'If You Change Your Mind.
The contract between you and us for your SPAR Rewards account is between you and us. Nobody else can enforce it and neither of us will need to ask anybody else to sign-off on ending or changing it.
If a court or other authority decides that some of these terms are unlawful, the rest will continue to apply.
No partial exercise, failure, delay or omission by us in exercising any right, power or remedy provided by law or under the Terms shall operate as a waiver of that right, power or remedy, nor shall it preclude or restrict any future exercise of that or any other right, power or remedy.
These terms are governed by English law and wherever you live you can bring claims against us in the English courts. If you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring claims against us in the courts of the country you live in. We can claim against you in the courts of the country you live in.
SPAR Rewards App Terms of Use

Who we are and what this Agreement does
We are SPAR (UK) Limited, Mezzanine Floor Hygeia Building, 66-68 College Road, Harrow, Middlesex, HA1 1BE. Under these terms we license you to use:
- The SPAR Rewards mobile application software (App) and any updates or supplements to it.
- Any related electronic documentation (Documentation).
- The SPAR Rewards service you connect to via the App and the content we provide to you through it (SPAR Rewards).
as permitted in these terms.
Your privacy
Under data protection legislation, we are required to provide you with certain information including who we are, how we process your personal data and for what purposes and your rights in relation to your personal data and how to exercise them. This information is provided in the SPAR Rewards Privacy Notice, unless you are using engaging in a specific promotion to which a different privacy policy applies, in which case you will be provided with a copy of the privacy policy relevant to that promotion at the time you engage with it. It is important that you read that information as well as the SPAR Rewards Privacy Notice.
Additional terms
In addition, your enrolment with and use of SPAR Rewards will be governed by the SPAR Rewards Membership Terms. You should also be aware that your engagement with certain promotions may be subject to additional terms in which case a copy of the terms applicable to that specific promotion will be provided to you at the time you engage with it.
Appstore terms also apply
You should be aware that the ways in which you can use the App and Documentation may also be controlled by the rules and policies of the appstore from which you download it.
Support for the App and how to tell us about problems
Support. If you want to learn more about the App, SPAR Rewards or have any problems using them please take a look at our support resources at [https://www.spar.co.uk/].
Contacting us (including with complaints). If you think the App or SPAR Rewards are faulty or misdescribed or wish to contact us for any other reason please do let us know. Details of how you can contact us can be found at https://www.spar.co.uk/contact-us/.
How we will communicate with you. If we have to contact you we will do so by email, by SMS or in some cases by post, using the contact details you provide to us when you enrol in SPAR Rewards.
How you may use the App, including how many devices you may use it on
In return for your agreeing to comply with these terms you may:
- download or stream a copy of the App onto your mobile phone and/or your tablet. You may view, use and display the App and SPAR Rewards on such devices for your personal purposes only.
- use any Documentation to support your permitted use of the App and SPAR Rewards.
- provided you comply with the Licence Restrictions, make up a copy of the App for back-up purposes; and
- receive and use any free supplementary software code or update of the App incorporating "patches" and corrections of errors as we may provide to you.
You must be 18 to accept these terms and use the App
You must be 18 or over to accept these terms and use the App.
You may not transfer the App to someone else
We are giving you personally the right to use the App and SPAR Rewards as set out above. You may not transfer the App or your SPAR Rewards to someone else, whether for money, for anything else or for free. If you sell any device on which the App is installed, you must remove the App from it.
Changes to these terms
We may need to change these terms to reflect changes in law or best practice or to deal with additional features which we introduce.
We will notify you of a change when you next start the App.
Continued use of the service implies your acceptance of the notified changes.
Update to the App and changes to the Service
From time to time we may automatically update the App and change SPAR Rewards to improve performance, enhance functionality, reflect changes to the operating system or address security issues. Alternatively we may ask you to update the App for these reasons.
If you choose not to install such updates or if you opt out of automatic updates you may not be able to continue using the App and SPAR Rewards.
The App will always work with the current or previous version of the operating system (as it may be updated from time to time) and match the description of it provided to you when you downloaded.
If someone else owns the phone or device you are using
If you download or stream the App onto any phone or other device not owned by you, you must have the owner's permission to do so. You will be responsible for complying with these terms, whether or not you own the phone or other device.
We are not responsible for other websites you link to
The App may contain links to other independent websites which are not provided by us. Such independent sites are not under our control, and we are not responsible for and have not checked and approved their content or their privacy policies (if any).
You will need to make your own independent judgement about whether to use any such independent sites, including whether to buy any products or services offered by them.
Licence restrictions
You agree that you will:
- not rent, lease, sub-license, loan, provide, or otherwise make available, the App in any form, in whole or in part to any person without prior written consent from us;
- not copy the App, Documentation or SPAR Rewards, except as part of the normal use of the App or where it is necessary for the purpose of back-up or operational security;
- not translate, merge, adapt, vary, alter or modify, the whole or any part of the App, nor permit the App or any part of it to be combined with, or become incorporated in, any other programs, except as necessary to use the App and SPAR Rewards on devices as permitted in these terms;
- not disassemble, de-compile, reverse engineer or create derivative works based on the whole or any part of the App nor attempt to do any such things, except to the extent that (by virtue of sections 50B and 296A of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988) such actions cannot be prohibited because they are necessary to decompile the App to obtain the information necessary to create an independent program that can be operated with the App or with another program (Permitted Objective), and provided that the information obtained by you during such activities:
- is not disclosed or communicated without our prior written consent to any third party to whom it is not necessary to disclose or communicate it in order to achieve the Permitted Objective; and
- is not used to create any software that is substantially similar in its expression to the App;
- is kept secure; and
- is used only for the Permitted Objective;
- comply with all applicable technology control or export laws and regulations that apply to the technology used or supported by the App.
Acceptable use restrictions
You must:
- not use the App or SPAR Rewards in any unlawful manner, for any unlawful purpose, or in any manner inconsistent with these terms, or act fraudulently or maliciously, for example, by hacking into or inserting malicious code, such as viruses, or harmful data, into the App or any operating system;
- not infringe our intellectual property rights or those of any third party in relation to your use of the App or SPAR Rewards, including by the submission of any material (to the extent that such use is not licensed by these terms);
- not transmit any material that is defamatory, offensive or otherwise objectionable in relation to your use of the App or SPAR Rewards;
- not use the App or any SPAR Rewards in a way that could damage, disable, overburden, impair or compromise our systems or security or interfere with other users; and
- not collect or harvest any information or data from SPAR Rewards or our systems or attempt to decipher any transmissions to or from the servers running SPAR Rewards.
Intellectual property rights
All intellectual property rights in the App, the Documentation and SPAR Rewards throughout the world belong to us (or our licensors)a nd the rights in the App and SPAR Rewards are licensed (not sold) to you. You have no intellectual property rights in, or to, the App, the Documentation or SPAR Rewards other than the right to use them in accordance with these terms.
Our responsibility for loss or damage suffered by you
We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
When we are liable for damage to your property. If defective digital content that we have supplied damages a device or digital content belonging to you, we will either repair the damage or pay you compensation. However, we will not be liable for damage that you could have avoided by following our advice to apply an update offered to you free of charge or for damage that was caused by you failing to correctly follow installation instructions or to have in place the minimum system requirements advised by us.
We are not liable for business losses. The App is for domestic and private use. If you use the App for any commercial, business or resale purpose we will have no liability to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, or loss of business opportunity.
Limitations to the App and SPAR Rewards. The App and SPAR Rewards are provided for general information and entertainment purposes only. They do not offer advice on which you should rely. You must obtain professional or specialist advice before taking, or refraining from, any action on the basis of information obtained from the App or SPAR Rewards. Although we make reasonable efforts to update the information provided by the App, we make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that such information is accurate, complete or up to date.
Please back-up content and data used with the App. We recommend that you back up any content and data used in connection with the App, to protect yourself in case of problems with the App.
Check that the App and SPAR Rewards are suitable for you. The App and SPAR Rewards have not been developed to meet your individual requirements. Please check that the facilities and functions of the App and SPAR Rewards (as described on the appstore site and in the Documentation) meet your requirements.
We are not responsible for events outside our control. If our provision of SPAR Rewards or support for the App or SPAR Rewards is delayed by an event outside our control then we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know and we will take steps to minimise the effect of the delay. Provided we do this we will not be liable for delays caused by the event but if there is a risk of substantial delay you may contact us to end your contract with us.
We may end your rights to use the App and SPAR Rewards if you break these terms
We may end your rights to use the App and SPAR Rewards at any time by contacting you if you have broken these terms in a serious way. If what you have done can be put right we will give you a reasonable opportunity to do so.
If we end your rights to use the App and SPAR Rewards:
- You must stop all activities authorised by these terms, including your use of the App and SPAR Rewards.
- You must delete or remove the App from all devices in your possession and immediately destroy all copies of the App which you have and confirm to us that you have done this.
- We may remotely access your devices and remove the App from them and cease providing you with access to SPAR Rewards.
We may transfer this Agreement to someone else
We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation. We will always tell you in writing if this happens and we will ensure that the transfer will not affect your rights under the contract.
You need our consent to transfer your rights to someone else
You may only transfer your rights or your obligations under these terms to another person if we agree in writing.
No rights for third parties
This Agreement does not give rise to any rights under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce any term of this Agreement.
If a court finds part of this contract illegal, the rest will continue in force
Each of the paragraphs of these terms operates separately. If any court or relevant authority decides that any of them are unlawful, the remaining paragraphs will remain in full force and effect.
Even if we delay in enforcing this contract, we can still enforce it later
Even if we delay in enforcing this Agreement, we can still enforce it later. If we do not insist immediately that you do anything you are required to do under these terms, or if we delay in taking steps against you in respect of your breaking this Agreement, that will not mean that you do not have to do those things and it will not prevent us taking steps against you at a later date.
Which laws apply to this Agreement and where you may bring legal proceedings
These terms are governed by English law and you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in the English courts. If you live in Scotland you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in either the Scottish or the English courts. If you live in Northern Ireland you can bring legal proceedings in respect of the products in either the Northern Irish or the English courts.
