SPAR Freuchie relaunches with donations made to local community groups

Freuchie is situated in the heart of a farming area in Fife, 30 miles north of Edinburgh, and the SPAR store in the village hosted a fun launch day on Wednesday 11th October for local shoppers to enjoy.

Owned by CJ Lang & Son Ltd, the award-winning Dundee based retailer and wholesaler for SPAR in Scotland, the 2,203sqft company owned SPAR store invited local villagers to attend a launch party to celebrate the store refit.

Shoppers were treated to a fun day where the SPAR spinning wheel was on hand to give-away 100 goody bags and a variety of prizes including SPAR shopping vouchers. Suppliers such as Rollover, BARR and Stuart’s the Bakers provided shoppers with tasty free product samples. In addition, there were special offers on a host of SPAR own label products and leading branded daily essential food and drink items.

SPAR Scotland is passionate about nurturing neighbourhoods and supporting the communities it serves. Three local charities were recipients of this generosity and were presented with cheque donations. Freuchie Community Council, to support their local food larder, and Freuchie in Flower each received a £500 cheque donation. In addition, a staggering £1,000 was given to Freuchie Bowling Club by SPAR Scotland to refresh their village green in preparation for their centenary in 2024.

Sonya Harper, Central Operations Director at SPAR Scotland, said: “We are delighted with how the new refit at SPAR Freuchie has landed. It was great to be able to invite residents to the store launch party and celebrate the great work that has been done within the store.

“SPAR Freuchie is a village store positioned at the heart of the community, employing twelve local colleagues. The store offers a wide range of essential food and drink products as well as important services for the local community to use. This store has been well refurbished and now offers both local customers and visitors to the area a great in-store shopping experience.”

And the fun on the day didn’t end there - local cricketing legend and great Scot David Christie officially opened SPAR Freuchie by cutting the ribbon on the day. David captained the Freuchie Cricket Club, when they were the first Scottish Cricket team to win the coveted National Village Cup at Lord’s in 1985. Freuchie are the only Scottish winners to date.

David is known as Mr Cricket in the area, and even has a housing estate named after him. As one of the most famous people in the area, David was recently inducted into the National Village Cup Hall of Fame at Lord’s.

SPAR Freuchie has been refitted internally and externally with brand new energy efficient refrigeration, new floor and wall coverings throughout. The team also installed additional shelving to enhance the range offer to customers, new internal and external graphics, and the counter area has been given a makeover with the addition of SPAR Scotland’s CJ’s branded food-to-go area providing shoppers with a great range of hot and cold food to go treats.

The store has a great off licence section, fresh fruit & veg, a range of news and magazines, grocery, Rollover hotdogs, F’real shakes and smoothies, chilled and fresh food products. Services provided include the Lottery, Post Office, Paypoint, Cashback and an ATM.

SPAR Freuchie employs twelve local people and is situated at High St, Freuchie KY15 7EY. The store is open 6am – 10pm, Monday to Saturday and 7am – 10pm on Sundays.
