Food & Drink Easter Sunday From Start To Finish

Easter is renowned as the time for celebrations, and even though this year might not be the same as normal, it doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy some delicious treats from breakfast through to dinner! With the extended weekend and lots of delicious chocolate eggs waiting to be devoured, Easter Sunday is an opportunity to cook some truly heavenly food.

Breakfast: Toasted Hot Cross Buns

The staple of Easter baking, hot cross buns have been gracing our palates since the 14th century. Bursting with currants and raisins, the cross silhouette on the top is said to be symbolic of Jesus’ crucifixion.

People enjoy hot cross buns in a variety of ways – plain, smothered in salted butter, dipped in strawberry or raspberry jam – you name it.  Simply slice the buns in half and toast as you would bread, and enjoy with a selection of preserves, such as peanut butter, marmalade, jam or even freshly whipped cream! If you want go all out, try home-baking them with our easy hot cross bun recipe.

Lunch: Carrot and Ginger Soup

A taste of springtime with a spicy kick, carrot and ginger soup is perfect for serving up on Easter Sunday, as a warm-up lunch before the main event!

Wondering how to make carrot and ginger soup? Simply mix onion, garlic and ginger together with nutmeg, stock (vegetable works best), and sliced carrots. Medallion slices are easiest to work with.

Blend your mixture and heat until bubbling, then serve with a sprinkle of nutmeg for seasoning.

If you are super hungry, serve your Easter soup with a side of wholemeal bread, or some rustic rolls for dipping.

Dinner: Braised Lamb Shoulder

Lamb is a traditional Easter dinner idea, recognising the Christian reference to Jesus as the “Lamb of God.” Other beliefs include the idea that seeing lambs at Easter is lucky, because it is the only animal the devil is unable to take the form of, given its religious status.

To really wow on Easter Sunday, why not serve up a succulent braised shoulder of lamb? This is where you can really get creative in the kitchen. Rosemary and thyme seasoning are a recommended tradition, as is garlic.

Following a braised lamb shoulder recipe is pretty straightforward. Once you’ve slowly stewed the lamb (braised) covered either in a pot or under tight foil, carve neatly into serving slices and dish up with a side of fresh vegetables and roast potatoes. Yum!

Dessert: Mini Eggs Pavlova

Who doesn’t love a pavlova? Light & easy to make, why not give your pavlova a real Easter twist with a topping of Mini Eggs?

If you’re wondering about how to make pavlova, it’s really simple. You’ll need to beat egg whites in a bowl, adding caster sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract and cornflour. Spread the mixture in a baking tray on parchment, making raised edges with your utensil. Bake this mixture for about one hour, then fill the centre with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and Mini Eggs.
