Food & Drink Get party ready for the summer with festival foodie types revealed - which one are you?

As the sun shines and temperatures soar across the UK, music lovers and party animals are loading up their backpacks and coolers ready to enjoy festivals, concerts and outdoor events. With Google searches for “festival food ideas'' tripling since April, it’s clear that everyone wants to make sure they are fully stocked before they get their dancing shoes (or wellies) on!

Whether it’s a day event in a local park or a full-on five day camping trip, everyone knows that it’s crucial to make sure you take the right snacks and drinks to keep your party fed and watered while enjoying the performances on stage (and avoid the expensive on-site options with huge queues!). As the UK’s largest community retailer we know a thing or two about making sure you can always get what you need, wherever you are, with stores the length and breadth of the UK and have pulled together a guide to the different types of festival foodies and what they want this summer!

FAMILY FAVES

While festivals used to be all about young people having fun with their friends, there are now plenty of choices for the whole family to enjoy together, with entertainment for parents and kids! Camp Bestival are offering two locations this year in Dorset and Shropshire across July and August and the ever popular Big Feastival is rounding out the summer over the August Bank Holiday weekend, meaning lots of options to enjoy with kids young and old. Packing food and drink for these events is a big task so make sure you have everything the family might want, including kid friendly snacks, pre-prepared fruit and veg and enough soft drinks to keep everyone hydrated in the heat.

GREAT BRITISH PICNIC-ERS

Festivals don’t have to be about shouting to make yourself heard in a field of thousands, there are also more civilised and sedate options out there to enjoy, if that’s your thing. From the famous (and very fancy) Glyndebourne opera festival to the Lake District Summer Music, events offering classical performances with stunning scenery means there really is something to suit everyone wanting to enjoy music in the outdoors. Here you want to have the very best in British summer treats, from fresh strawberries and cream, classic finger sandwiches and the best sparkling wines, this is all about enjoying the finer things in life with their performances.

PARTY ANIMALS

Let’s not forget where it all started with music festivals being the chance to catch the latest bands and supergroups headlining some of the biggest outdoor parties across the summer. From Glastonbury kicking off the summer to Reading Festival with its raucous reputation, these events are all about good times and dancing with friends. The festival goers are all about the party and making sure they have enough drinks and snacks to keep going all day and night. Coolers of beers and canned cocktails means you can avoid the queues at the bar and the best range of crisps and snacks that are easy to eat on the go when hunger strikes! The more seasoned attendees will know to pack some easy breakfast items for the morning when at the camping site - bacon sandwiches, sausages and even pre-made porridge pots help to get you prepped for the day ahead.

TASTE ADVENTURERS

Thinking outside the box, there are a whole range of different festival experiences out there for the more adventurous among us. From Festival Number 6 in Portmeirion to Wilderness in Oxfordshire, these revellers are looking for something different and a few days away from the normal world. The same is true when it comes to what they want to eat by enjoying taste sensations in between mind-blowing musical sets. From green juices and ginger shots to Mediterranean mezze treats and grain bowls, the aim here is to keep your mind and body fresh to enjoy the weird and wonderful activities on offer.
