SPAR Scotland Future Stars Reaches New Milestone with Record Number of Girls Taking Part
SPAR Scotland and the Scottish FA are proud to announce another landmark year for the SPAR Scotland Future Stars programme, with a record number of girls participating in this year's competition, culminating in a Finals Day that took place at Scotland’s national stadium, Barclays Hampden Park on Wednesday 3rd June 2026.
The continued growth of SPAR Scotland Future Stars reflects the increasing momentum behind girls’ football across the country, with schools from communities throughout Scotland taking part in local and regional stages of the tournament before earning the opportunity to compete on one of the biggest stages in Scottish football.
The move to Barclays Hampden Park marks a significant moment in the evolution of the competition, giving young players the chance to experience competing at an iconic venue while creating unforgettable memories alongside teammates, coaches, schools, and supporters.
Paula Middleton, Head of Marketing, SPAR Scotland commented; "The growth of SPAR Scotland Future Stars has been incredible to see, and this year's record participation numbers show just how strong the appetite for girls' football continues to be across Scotland.
Over recent years, SPAR Scotland Future Stars has become one of Scotland’s leading schoolgirls football initiatives, helping create accessible opportunities for young people to participate in the game, build confidence, and develop a lifelong connection with football.
Finals Day at Barclays Hampden Park brought together school teams from across Scotland for a celebration of talent, teamwork, and the future of the women’s game in Scotland.
Shirley Martin, Head of Girls & Women’s Football at the Scottish FA added; “It was fantastic to see the SPAR Scotland Future Stars playing at Barclays Hampden. The opportunity to play at the national stadium is something that can be an inspiration for the players taking part and continue to fuel their ambition to go as far as they can in the game. Whether it is simply to play with their friends and stay active, or take steps within the professional game, events like today can motivate them to keep growing and learning.”
As participation continues to grow, organisers hope this year's competition will inspire even more girls to take their first steps into football and continue building a pathway for future generations.
