The internet can’t get enough of the viral Japanese “yogurt cheesecake”, a clever, no‑bake hack that transforms just two simple ingredients into a soft, creamy, cheesecake‑like treat.
Originating in Japan as a healthier, high‑protein dessert alternative, this overnight recipe uses thick yogurt and crunchy biscuits to create a surprisingly indulgent texture without any baking at all. It’s quick, wholesome and endlessly customisable, which is exactly why it’s taken social feeds by storm.
Ingredients:
- 1 small pot of thick Greek yogurt
- 4–6 caramelised biscuits (or any similar crunchy biscuit)
Method:
- Open your yogurt pot, or spoon the yogurt into a small bowl.
- Snap the biscuits in half and stand them upright in the yogurt.
- Press them down until they’re fully covered.
- Cover and refrigerate for 4–6 hours, or leave overnight for best results!
Top tip: As it chills, the yogurt thickens and the biscuits soften, creating a creamy, cake like dessert texture.
This recipe is made for experimenting. Try stirring a little coffee into the yogurt and finish with cocoa powder for a tiramisu‑style version.
You can also mix in your favourite topping such as maple syrup, honey, cocoa powder, chocolate chips or chopped berries. For a richer biscuity flavour, blend in a spoonful of SPAR's biscuit spread. The possibilities are endless!
