Tips & Variations

  • Swap honey for maple syrup for a richer sweetness.
  • Add chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or almonds) to the wheat base for extra crunch.
  • Stir a pinch of nutmeg into the apples for more depth of flavour.

What you'll need:

For the Wheat Cups

  • 4 SPAR own-label wheat biscuits, crushed
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup

For the Warm Cinnamon Apples

  • 2 medium apples (e.g., Braeburn or Gala), peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1–2 tbsp water

To Serve

Method:

  1. Prep the Wheat Cups
    • Pre-heat your oven to 180°C / fan 160°C / Gas Mark 4.
    • Crush the wheat biscuits in a bowl until they resemble coarse crumbs.
    • Pour in melted butter and honey, then mix until well combined.
    • Divide the mixture evenly between 4 small oven-proof dishes or ramekins and press down gently to form a compact base.
    • Bake in the oven for 8–10 minutes until light golden. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Apples
    • In a medium saucepan over a low heat, combine the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and water.
    • Stir gently and cook for 10–12 minutes, until the apples are soft, warm and coated in spiced syrup.
    • If the mixture gets too dry, add a splash more water.
  3. Assemble & Serve
    • Spoon warm cinnamon apples over each wheat cup.
    • Add a generous dollop of yoghurt on top and finish with a drizzle of honey if you like.
    • Serve immediately while warm and comforting.
