Since day one we’ve strived to put quality, convenience and the community at the centre of everything we do. But over the past three months, our amazing staff have done so much more. Our stores are run by locals, for locals – and to say thank you, we wanted to share some of their remarkable stories with you.

Our independent retailers are the real heroes behind SPAR. That’s why we want to celebrate and showcase those who make SPAR what it is – a network of independent, family-run businesses at the heart of their communities.

These are the heroes who are offering their local communities much more than just a convenience store. Whether it’s being open late when other shops are closed, delivering to the vulnerable and elderly, or supporting local initiatives, these people are the consistently friendly faces who represent the best of SPAR.

Because our independent retailers aren’t just providing essential food and household items, they are neighbours, friends and a part of the community.

At SPAR, we’re all there for you.

MK Vaish, Store Owner - SPAR Offerton

"Since the beginning of lockdown, customers have also been donating products and sharing collection through local Facebook groups. Produce can be anything from loaves of bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, cereal, tinned goods and toilet roll."

Nathan, Store Owner - SPAR Stithians

"My team have been amazing throughout. They have all stepped up to support the community and each other. I couldn't ask for a better team to be working with during all of this. They have managed to smile everyday and make people laugh which is exactly what our customers need at this time."

Emma, Store Owner - SPAR Lochcarron

"We've been cooking fresh meals every day and offering butcher packs and other locally sourced produce, ensuring the store is well stocked. We have offered free home delivery to the local community and a built in hand sanitiser unit for customers to use in-store."

David, Store Owner - SPAR Kirby Stephen

"More and more customers are ordering over the phone and coming to the store to pick up their goods. We hope to keep this service going in the future and also hope that our "new" customers will continue to support us and shop locally."

Sophie & Paul, Store Owners - SPAR Pelynt

"The team reacted quickly and reinstated our newspaper and milk delivery to the village. We also offered home delivery for groceries to anyone who wanted one. The response was overwhelming and we were lucky to have two fabulous volunteers to help."

Tim & Leslie, Store Owners - SPAR Enham

"We have a lovely community here at Enham and wanted to ensure we could continue being there for everyone during this difficult time. "There For You" has never been so strong or rewarding than it is now."

Gary, Store Manager - SPAR Proctor Aspull

"We have worked with a local community project to help raise funds for people who are struggling on a personal level and have provided a free of charge delivery service to anyone who needs it."

Lorraine, Store Manager - SPAR Drymen

"Since lockdown started the girls at Drymen have been making around 50 deliveries each week in conjunction with a community organised "Covid 19" food bank. The deliveries are organised, through a group of volunteers, to local people who are isolating or shielding."
