Looking for an alternative to a bog standard sandwich to make your packed lunches more exciting? Or looking for a new take on uses for tortillas?

We’re launching new ranges of wholemeal tortillas, mixed herb tortillas, and wholemeal pita breads in selected SPAR stores – here’s some recipe ideas to get you started.

Classic Pita and Dip

There’s nothing better to satisfy a snack craving than pita and dip. Simply put your pitas under the grill for 2-5 minutes (until lightly toasted) – cut them into smaller strips beforehand to make them easier to dip. Then, if looking for an easy snack, we’d recommend buying our tasty, ready to eat Houmous (in original or red pepper flavour). If you’re looking to prepare your own dip, blitz chickpeas, olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice in a blender. Spoon onto a separate plate, or just dip straight into the pot if you’re not sharing!

Greek Chicken Pita To Go

For a delicious lunch on the go, lightly toast one pita bread and cut in half once cooled. Mix together mayonnaise and a small amount of garlic paste and lightly spread on the inside of the pitas. Take some ready cooked chicken and half fill the two pitas. Then add some chopped red onion, cucumber and tomato (as well as any other salad you’d like). Much more interesting than your standard chicken sandwich!

Home Made Tortilla Pizza

An easy recipe that you can have the kids help you make!

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Spread your tortilla on a baking tray, and add your choice of pizza base (passata, bbq sauce, anything you like). Evenly sprinkle grated cheese over the sauce, and add your choice of additional, ready cooked toppings. Cook in the oven for around 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling.

Peanut Butter and Banana Health Kick Wrap

Our tortilla wraps are a healthier option for those who are looking to make a switch from white bread or white tortillas. For an ultra-healthy breakfast or snack, cover one side of a tortilla with a layer of peanut butter and place a banana on top. Wrap the tortilla around the banana, and you’ve got a tasty, portable treat that will give you energy but won’t leave you bloated.
