How To Prepare Avocado

Step 1
Start with a medium to large kitchen knife. Cut your avocado in half, cutting around the stone to create two even sides.
Step 2
Removing the stone can be tricky. Insert a teaspoon just under the stone and make a twisting motion. This should easily pull the stone out from the centre. Alternatively, tap the tip of a sharp knife into the stone, twist and pull to remove.
Step 3
Use a teaspoon to scoop the avocado out of the shell and onto your chopping board, throwing the peel away.
Step 4
Use your avocado to create your desired avocado meal or snack.
How to keep avocado fresh
Learning how to preserve an avocado effectively will save it from browning and becoming inedible. Storing avocados correctly can often require citrus juice – this preserves avocados well, as does a slice of lemon. Wrap up your avocado in tin foil or in an air-tight container with citrus juice or vinegar drizzled on to it – this should keep your avocado for about a day.

How To Serve Avocado
There are countless options available when it comes to avocado meal ideas, from succulent salads to juicy smoothies. How you eat your avocado comes down to preference. Find a range of healthy suggestions for some of the best avocado meals below.

Avocado Smoothie
Cube your avocado and team with either coconut water, milk, juice or water. Full of healthy fats and vitamins, why not pair your avocado with frozen banana as well? A fruity concoction, indulging on delicious flavours while staying healthy.

How To Make Guacamole
Using your ripe avocados, mash them together using a fork in a medium sized bowl, adding a little salt for flavour. When mushy, a splash of acidity from either lime or lemon juice brings out a zesty taste, accompanied by chopped onion and tomatoes if required. Pair this dip with simple crisps, or use as a base for fajitas or nachos – a Mexican winner all-round.

Avocado Salad
Using sliced avocado is the best option for this avocado meal. Once pitted and peeled, turn your avocado hole down and cut in symmetric lines across the fruit. Using avocado in a salad is a great way to bulk it with your daily dose of healthy fats, keeping your food interesting and your stomach full. For a summer salad, try pairing your sliced avocado with red peppers, artichoke, lettuce and chicken for a light but filling avocado snack.
